On 27 April 2022, popular Nollywood actor, Yul Edochie, broke the Internet with the news of the existence of a son, “Star”, born by a woman he also introduced as his second wife.

“It’s time for the world to meet my son”, he said, while sharing pictures of Star on his Instagram page. Looking at the picture, it was clear Star is no longer a newborn. Information about his existence only surfaced at a time his father considered appropriate. Many had insinuated that Yul preferred to release the information before other social media gods, already seized of the information in some way, will do so before him.

If that was the case, Yul was on the crossroads. A top secret has to be made open and it was done in boldness and unapologetically.

Why did the news of Yul’s son and the existence of a second wife break the Internet? Yul is married to May Yul-Edochie and has been so married for over 17 years. The marriage is blessed with children. Considering the couple’s background and what they represent online and offline, no one expects that Yul would consider diving into polygamy many years after.

A handsome man and highly respected actor, Yul is a personification of grace, charisma and character. Riding on the pedigree of his beloved father, Pete Edochie, a veteran Nollywood actor, Yul exudes confidence and gentleness which makes him enjoy his father’s goodwill and the goodwill he has built for himself as a true and worthy son of his father.

Coming as a shock, his marriage to a Nollywood actress, Judy Muoghalu, as he claimed, apparently did not go down well with his wife whose reaction to the news ensured that the Internet is not only broken, but set on fire. The pretty and illustrious wife of Yul had remarked under Yul’s post, “God will judge you both.”

As actor and actress, Yul appeared to have thrown caution into the wind and has now been “yulitied” with a “second wife”, Judy, and a son, against the interest and legitimate expectation of his long-standing wife, May, whom according to Yul, stood by him when he was nothing.

Perhaps, this story would have been a perfect fit for a blockbuster movie. But the talented actor, Yul, and busty actress, Judy, ensured that the story making the rounds was far from fiction but buried in reality.

If Yul wedded his wife of 17 years under the Marriage Act, he cannot legally marry any second wife during the subsistence of that marriage, as that may be sufficient to ground a criminal charge of bigamy and the so-called marriage to Judy may be rendered invalid.

Beyond that, taking a second wife after 17 years of marriage smacks of betrayal – betrayal of love, faith and trust. May, with heavy hearts, now has to weigh her options.

Judy went against all odds to allow the weight of Yul’s manhood rest on her until she produced a Star, which has now left May with scars.

Star brings light, it is hoped that the brightness of this boy will lighten the coming days and let broken hearts find healing some day.
