The National Council on Privatization (NCP) in a meeting held on Tuesday adopted a draft bill – Health Sector Reform Bill – and approved its presentation to President Buhari and the Federal Executive Council (FEC). The meeting was chaired by the Vice-President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

According to the Secretary of the NCP, and Director-General of the Bureau of Public Enterprises (BPE), Alex Oko, the move for the radical healthcare reform was inspired by the Covid-19 pandemic. The expected outcome is the delivery of free quality healthcare to millions of Nigerians.

Once the draft Bill is okayed by the President and the FEC, it will go through the normal legislative procedure for valid enactment into law.

It is expected that all stakeholders would be involved to ensure that this long-overdue initiative is fulfilled.

Hopefully, medical tourism will become a thing of the past.
